Set A Timer
This tip is helpful if you find yourself struggling to get in the groove, and it can actually be utilized beyond work. Sometimes you may be putting something off, or you’re just not quite feeling it and you just kind of … putter around. One way to get yourself going is to set a timer and work on the task for X number of minutes. That can be for how long you might have available at a given time, how long you may think it will take to finish, or just an arbitrary number.
The most ideal outcome is that you finish the task, but what you’ll likely find is that when you put your head down and dedicate the set time to the task, you’ll make decent headway on it regardless of whether or not it’s complete - which is still a win!
What I’ve also found, is that sometimes I just need that push to get started, and once I’m working and in my “zone” I’m good to keep going once the timer goes off. I’ve found this helpful not only with work - creative or otherwise, but also working out, doing a task around the house or if there’s a hobby or habit I want to pick back up.
It’s not always so bad once we start doing it, but the hardest thing sometimes is just getting going.
