Are You Struggling With Time Management?
There are countless tips and tricks out there…. “hack” is the trending word. In fact, I’ve covered a few tips that are helpful when it comes to time management on previous blog posts on this very site.
If you’re a creative, I’m sure you’re very much aware, that very often you can’t hack your way to success. It takes talent, hard work, and maybe a bit of luck. Similarly, there isn’t always a hack that will solve a time management issue. Oftentimes, the heart of the issue is honesty.
Its important, whether you are time-blocking, tasking yourself out, or using some other method of time-management, to be honest with yourself. At the macro level, you need to be honest about which method will work for you, and what you’ll stick to. What works for one may not work for many. You can want a method to work, but if it doesn’t, it doesn’t. Likewise, if you’re doing something that is unconventional and it is working, don’t mess with it.
At the micro level, you need to be honest with yourself about how long tasks actually take to complete. We often lie to ourselves, thinking that we can complete tasks within a shorter period of time than they’ll truly take. Or place unreasonable deadlines on ourselves because we know that is what will make the clients happy.
When it comes to running your business, and your sanity while working on the creative output, it will be much better to be honest on all fronts from the get-go and schedule yourself accordingly.
